Queenstown to Christchurch via Mt Cook: Private Three Day Tour

Day 1: Queenstown to Mount Cook

Begin your South Island adventure in Queenstown, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. A familiarization tour will orient you to the town before you embark on a scenic drive through the historic gold-mining village of Arrowtown. Ascend the Lindis Pass, marveling at the dramatic transition of the landscape as you enter the Otago province.

Journey through the unique "Clay Cliffs," a striking testament to New Zealand's badlands, and continue north towards Omarama, a renowned gliding center. Arrive in the Mackenzie Country, a region of stunning natural beauty, before reaching your destination, Mount Cook National Park. At an elevation of 3754 meters, Aoraki Mount Cook reigns supreme as New Zealand's highest mountain. Explore the park through guided walks, soak in the alpine vistas, or take a leisurely stroll to the Tasman Glacier, the longest glacier in the world in a temperate zone.

Day 2: Leisure Day in Mount Cook or Tekapo

Indulge in a day of relaxation and exploration, choosing between Mount Cook or Tekapo for your activities. In Mount Cook, enjoy various activities such as exhilarating glacier flights, scenic boat trips for an up-close glacier encounter, or take a stunning walk in the surrounding alpine wonderland. If Tekapo is your choice, soak in the soothing hot pools and experience the wonders of the night sky with a visit to the world-famous observatory.

Day 3: Mount Cook to Christchurch

Depart Mount Cook, leaving the majestic mountains behind as you traverse the picturesque turquoise waters of Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo. Pass through the high country of the MacKenzie Plains, a vast landscape named after a legendary sheep rustler. Cross Burke's Pass, and journey through small, charming towns, experiencing the heart of the South Island. Finally, cross the wide expanse of the Canterbury Plains and the Rakaia River gorge, concluding your unforgettable adventure in Christchurch.
