Queenstown - West Coast Glaciers - Arthurs Pass - Christchurch: Private Four Day Tour

Day 1: Queenstown to Lake Moeraki/Haast

Begin your South Island adventure in vibrant Queenstown. Journey north, ascending the rugged and remote Crown Range, once a bustling site of gold diggings. Arrive in the quaint old gold-mining village of Arrowtown, where history comes alive.

Continue along the scenic lakeshores of Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka, each a testament to the region's natural beauty. Climb the Haast Pass, witnessing a dramatic shift in landscape from the dry tussock lands of Otago to the West Coast's dense rainforests.

Descend into the Haast River Valley, marveling at its powerful river and diverse wildlife. Your destination is the tranquil Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki or Haast, where you may have the unique opportunity to observe the rare Fiordland Crested penguin.

Day 2: Lake Moeraki/Haast to Franz Josef Glacier

Embark on an exploration of Glacier Country, a unique glaciated region where glaciers meet a lush temperate rainforest, a phenomenon rarely seen on Pacific islands. Take short walks amidst the breathtaking scenery, with the imposing Southern Alps and towering peaks of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman serving as a dramatic backdrop.

Opt for an exciting helicopter ride (additional cost) to gain a bird's eye view of the glaciers and experience a snow landing on the upper reaches, or choose from various walks to glacier viewpoints for a closer look at their awe-inspiring descent. Conclude your day in Franz Josef or Fox Glacier village, nestled in the heart of this stunning natural wonderland.

Day 3: Franz Josef Glacier to Arthur's Pass

Venture north along the wild West Coast, following rivers that flow towards the Tasman Sea and witnessing the ever-changing rainforest landscape, dominated by diverse fern varieties. Visit Hokitika, once a bustling gold-mining town and now a thriving center for art and crafts showcasing greenstone (jade) and gold treasures.

Journey through the breathtaking mountain valleys, marveling at the engineering feat of the Otira Gorge as the road winds its way up. Arrive in Arthur's Pass National Park, a haven of biodiversity ranging from beech-clad hills and tussock valleys to lush rainforests in the west. Your guide will unveil the park's natural wonders, showcasing its unique flora and fauna. Settle into your accommodation in the heart of this alpine paradise.

Day 4: Arthur’s Pass to Christchurch

Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Arthur's Pass National Park, where the diverse landscapes range from eastern beech forests and tussock valleys to the lush rainforests of the west. Discover the park's glacial wonders, surrounding tussock basins, vibrant flowering herbs, and alpine grasses.

In the afternoon, embark on the iconic TranzAlpine™ train, traversing the vast Canterbury Plains and the dramatic gorge of the Waimakariri River as you arrive in Christchurch, where your unforgettable journey concludes
