The experience

One of the loveliest short walks near Queenstown, minutes from town yet a world apart.

Bob’s Cove threads through native beech forest and manuka groves on the shore of Lake Wakatipu. It is alive with birdsong, holds a piece of 1800s history in an old lime kiln, and rewards a short climb with a panorama over the lake and mountains.

The day

Into the beech

A short, scenic drive along the lake brings you to the track, where your local guide sets a gentle, immersive pace. Through beech forest and manuka, listening for tui, bellbird and the native wood pigeon, past the historic lime kiln, and a short, steeper climb to the lookout with its sweeping view over Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding peaks, roughly three kilometres and about ninety minutes of walking in all.
