Mountain Explorer 2 day
Tour Overview
Some of New Zealand's most spectacular mountain scenery is in Canterbury and on this two day Mountain Explorer you visit the majestic Mt Cook and the rugged Arthur's Pass National Parks. At 3754 metres, New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki Mount Cook is dazzling and there are 20 other mountains in this alpine backbone which peak at over 3000 metres. In the Mt Cook National Park, walks can be made to experience the alpine vistas or to view the Tasman Glacier - the longest glacier in a temperate climate zone. There are also excellent exhibits at The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and the Department of Conservation Centre for you to explore the Maori and European settler history of the area.
Overnight is spent in Tekapo where you can visit Mt John Observatory to view the Southern Night sky with Earth & Sky. There are opportunities (at your own cost) to take a scenic flight around Mt Cook and Tasman Glacier and visit the Alpine Thermal Pools for 'a soak', massage or beauty treatments.
The second day takes you into Arthur's Pass National Park with its incredible diversity of flora and landscape from the eastern beech clad hills to tussock valleys and rainforest in the west.
